Spring Cleaning: Detox Edition

We’re doing some big time Spring Cleaning this week. We’ve cleaned the house, the refrigerator, and even our lives. Now, we’re Spring Cleaning our diet.

The Winter and all of its starches and hearty meals were delicious, but have left us feeling the need for some lighter fare. There are some delicious foods in season right now, and summer will be here sooner than we think.

Here’s our tips on how to “detox” the healthy way and revamp your diet for Spring. It’s Spring Cleaning for the body.

FOOD

1. Avoid processed foods to stabilize your energy levels and filter out all those preservatives.

2. Try going Raw! There are so many healthy fats and nutrients in raw nuts and food that’ll give an amazing boost to your system.

3. Protein is your friend. Choose pulses like chickpeas, lentils, and edamame to give you long-lasting energy throughout the day. We also turn to quinoa as a super delicious energy-packed protein. Any of these are perfect in a salad or sauté.

4. Eat less salt. We rely way too much on salt for flavor. There’s a whole spice rack filled with delicious seasonings without all that bloat-inducing sodium. Our go-to’s? Lemon pepper, chili powder, and smoked paprika.

DRINK

1. The best way to clean your system is by drinking some good old H2O. Good thing we’ve got some great water bottles already picked out. With a bottle this cute, you’ll have no problem drinking that water.

2. Give alcohol a break. Try cutting back to one night of drinking per week and give yourself a limit. Alcohol can be incredibly dehydrating and distract the liver from the good work it’s doing to detox your system.

3. Switch out at least one cup of coffee or soda for an alternative. We love herbal tea, and so will your body!

4. Try out a detoxifying beverage like Dirty Lemon. It’s lemonade, but the added activated charcoal, ginger and dandelion root absorb toxins and sooth digestion. The best part of this detox? It’s not one of those crazy cleanses, so you can and SHOULD eat!

MOVE

1. Every detox diet needs corresponding exercise. Kick your body into action by opting to walk to work in the morning.

2. Feel the need to center yourself after all this Spring Cleaning? Try a flow yoga class to realign.
