REMEDIES FOR A NOT SO GREEN DAY
So your Thursday turned out to be a little more epic than usual… I mean who wouldn’t want to chug green beer, hijack an Irish dancing line, and stand on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade float?
So we’re exaggerating a bit… we hope? Well, no matter your St. Patty’s Day revelry or just plain Thursday night plans, this morning you are feeling it.
So what’s the best way to get past a hangover? We’ve got all the answers you’re looking for to help kick that hangover to the curb.
Drop that hair of the dog and greasy breakfast, because those ACTUALLY just make it worse. We’ve got the healthy and natural remedies that will help you kick it in to high gear and turn that hangover into a productive day.
HYDRATE
The worst side affect of a night of drinking is dehydration. We’ve all been told to drink a glass of water between every drink, but when someone hands you some Guinness (now vegan btw!), the last thing you’re thinking about is the next morning.
So here we are, dehydrated and feeling terrible… The solution? Water and electrolytes.
Drink lots of water to keep hydrated and help flush out your system. Be sure to also get your electrolytes from a healthy source like coconut water, Essentia, or green juice.
SOOTHE
Not quite at the eating stage yet? All of the sugars and toxins from a night (or day) of drinking can wreak havoc on your stomach.
Ginger is a great way to naturally soothe the stomach. People have used it in China for thousands of years!
We recommend nibbling on some crystallized ginger or infusing some ginger and lemon in hot water. If that’s too much to handle, grab some natural ginger ale or ginger tea from your local bodega or ya know, order on postmates.
DETOX
A hangover is pretty much just your body saying “WTF, why did you poison me?” (or at least, that’s what we imagine.) The next very important step to taking back your morning is to detox. Get those toxins right out of your system!
Dandelion tea has been used for ages to detox the liver, and it even might fool you into thinking you’re drinking coffee (which can be a bit too acidic for a hangover stomach).
Another way to help your body detox? Vitamin B. It helps the metabolic system work correctly, so it can do its job and get all of that bad stuff out.
Find yourself in the West Village? Stop over and grab yourself a hangover cure. Our On The Road cold pressed juice has activated charcoal in it to help you detox.
REPLENISH
All of this dehydration and detoxing has left your system in dire need of some replenishment. The two major ways to replenish? Eat and Sleep.
You may not want to, and everything edible probably seems like the worst form of torture, BUT you need to eat. So suck it up and grab something easy to digest that has the protein and healthy fats your body needs.
Our go-to’s are healthy grains like oats and healthy fats like avocado. Try @NOBREAD’s yummy Avocado Oatmeal Recipe which combines the two.
EXERCISE
Exercising is a great way to fight the sluggish, blah feeling of a hangover, but who wants to go on a run when they feel that way?
Light exercise like yoga or walking can be a great way to boost the lymphatic system to excrete toxins and get endorphins! And we know endorphins make us happy.
THE ULTIMATE HANGOVER CURE
Feeling bold and want a one-stop shop to feeling better? Try this hangover cure smoothie to get your hydration, soothing, detox, and replenishment all in one. Maybe the slow climb out of bed and into your kitchen can count as the exercise?
In a blender combine coconut water, fresh ginger, banana, spinach and ice. Blend until smooth and add a touch of raw agave nectar to sweeten and add fructose to boost the metabolism.
