New Year, New You

2016 is finally here and with that comes New Year’s resolutions, new habits to form, and new routines to abide by.

Say goodbye to champagne toasts, Holiday feast, and confetti (for now) it’s time to gear up for a big year ahead, and that start with your overall health and well being. #peaceout2015

We wanted to share a few quick and easy tips to recharge you for the year aheadand give you the tools to start a new year filled with fun, friends, and activity.

1. GET JUICED

Cold-pressed juices are a great way to help get your body back on track after a few indulgent weeks (or months…) Whether you’re looking for hydration, detoxification or just an overall helping hand, here are a few ingredients we recommend tossing into your juicer*:

Dandelion greens – this fresh, slightly spicy green is a great ingredient in a green juice (it also makes a great base for salads!). In addition to the alkaline and nutrient benefits from green juice, dandelion greens aid in detoxifying the liver.

Celery – loaded with essential vitamins and minerals including folic acid, calcium, iron and amino acids, celery is a must have in your green juice. Need another reason? Celery is also a natural diuretic and one of the most alkalizing things you can put in your body.

Beets – these beautiful gems are a huge help to detoxify your liver and blood. Not to mention they’re packed with folate, iron and vitamin C. Pro tip: beet juice pairs best with apples and carrots.

2. WAKE UP CALL

You’ve probably heard it time and time again, but starting your morning with a mug of hot lemon water is a great habit to throw into your new 2016 morning routine. Lemon stimulates the liver, aids in detoxification and will help get your body moving first thing in the AM.

Simply heat water in a kettle and remove from heat right before it boils. In a mug, add the juice from ¼ of a fresh lemon (and add the lemon too if you like), top with the warm water, quick stir, and enjoy.

There are easy updates to this as well, we love adding a sprinkle of cayenne for an extra kickstart to your day, a squeeze of pure agave nectar if you have more of a sweet tooth, or a few slices of ginger if you belly needs a little extra love.

3. SWEAT IT OUT

Detoxifying is not only about eating healthy, but also about SWEATING out all of the bad. Spending 10-15 minutes in a dry sauna or steam room routinely can make a big difference. You’ll release toxins through your skin while opening up your pores to remove dirt and debris.

A cold shower and lots of clean water to follow, and you’ll be feeling fresh and rejuvenated immediately. Need a little more schvitz? A yoga class packed with twists will help generate movement throughout your body.

4. CUT-IT-OUT

In the wise words of Joey Gladstone, CUT - IT - OUT!

Looking to eliminate the culprit? Try an elimination diet. Stay away from these foods for at least 21 days to really feel the full effect: coffee, sugar, processed foods and alcohol – it sounds like a no brainer but a helpful reminder never hurts!
