ingredients
1 1/2 cups organic sugar
1 cup corn syrup
6 Tbsp vegan margarine
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup powdered non-dairy milk
1/8 tsp sea salt
red food dye
yellow food dye
method
Combine organic sugar, corn syrup, vegan margarine and vanilla in sauce pan.
Bring to a boil, then lower heat to medium and let bubble for 5 minutes, stirring every so often. Set aside.
Sift powdered sugar, powdered non-dairy milk and sea salt into a bowl.
Add to the boiled sugar. Mix together until it forms a dough-like texture. Set aside until cool enough to touch, but remains malleable (about 15 minutes).
Separate the mixture into 3 even parts. Roll out the first piece until smooth.
In a metal bowl add 8-12 drops of yellow food coloring to the second piece of dough, kneading until the dough is uniform in color. Set aside.
Take the third piece of dough and add 8 drops of yellow food dye and 3-4 drops of red food dye and knead until uniform. Do your best to keep the dough warm. If it begins to harden, heat on low for 1 minute, or until slightly softened.
build
On a smooth surface, roll each piece of dough into thin ropes of ½ inch in thickness. Once each piece is rolled out and uniform in size, place the white next to the orange and orange next to the yellow. Press together to form an even block.
Take a pairing knife and cut diagonal triangles from the top to the bottom to begin forming the candy corn pieces.
